Checkbox fields allow users to select one or more options from a list of predefined choices.
They’re ideal for questions where multiple selections may apply, such as choosing interests, product preferences, or applicable categories.
Adding a Checkbox Field
- In the form editor, click Add Field.
- From the Basic Fields section, select Checkbox.
- The field will appear on your form, ready for configuration.
Customizing Field Options
After adding the field, you can configure and customize your checkbox options directly in the form builder.
To set up your options:
- Type or paste your choices into the Options list.
- To add more options, press Enter or click below the last option.
- Toggle Use Separate Values if you want to assign internal values to each option for data mapping or automation.
Separate values are useful when the visible label differs from the value that’s stored — for example, using internal codes or abbreviations instead of full text labels.
You can also:
- Change the field title to reflect the question or category you’re capturing.
- Add helper text below the field to provide additional context or instructions.
To the right of the field title, you’ll find quick-access icons to manage visibility and behaviour:
- Toggle Required on or off.
- Click the eye icon to hide or show the field.
- Click the lock icon to make the field read-only.
- Click the two boxes to duplicate the field.
- Click the trash can to delete it.
Field Settings
In the field settings panel on the top right, you can configure additional options to control how the field behaves:
- Data Mapping Label: Add an internal label for data mapping or CSS targeting.
- Allow Check All: Enables users to select all options in a single click.
- Add Other: Allows users to enter a custom response not included in the predefined list.
- Option Layout: Choose whether to display options horizontally or vertically.
These settings ensure data consistency and simplify the setup process for forms that need to pass structured values to downstream workflows or integrations.
Tips for Using Checkbox Fields
- Use checkboxes when users need to select multiple answers or categories.
- Keep the number of options concise to avoid overwhelming users.
- Add helper text to clarify how many selections users should make (for example, “Select up to three options”).
- Use separate values for integrations where the display text differs from the stored data.
