Note: This article applies to the new Form Step experience in Streamline.
The File Upload field allows respondents to upload documents, images, audio files, videos, and other supported file types directly through your form. This field is ideal for collecting items such as identification documents, resumes, agreements, photos, or media files needed for processing or review.
Adding a File Upload Field
- In the form editor, click Add Field.
- Select File Upload from the Advanced category.
- The field will appear on your form, ready for configuration.
Customizing Field Properties
Once added, you can adjust how the File Upload field appears directly within the form builder.
You can:
- Rename the field title to clarify its purpose (e.g., “Upload Resume,” “Submit Photo,” or “Attach Supporting Documents”).
- Add helper text to provide instructions (e.g., “PDF only,” “Maximum size 10 MB,” or “Upload all required documentation”).
Quick-access icons next to the field title allow you to:
- Toggle Required on or off
- Show or hide the field
- Duplicate the field
- Delete the field
Field Settings
You can configure how the File Upload field behaves using the field settings panel on the top right.
Data Mapping Label
Assign an internal label for mapping, workflows, or CSS targeting. This label does not appear to respondents.
File Size Range (MB)
Set the acceptable file size range respondents may upload.
You can define:
- Minimum file size (optional)
- Maximum file size (required)
⚠️ Important Limitation: A single form can store up to 2 GB total.
Accepted File Types
The File Upload field supports a wide range of documents, images, audio, video, and compressed formats.
Supported file types include:
Images: jpg, jpeg, gif, png, bmp, tif, psd
Documents: pdf, doc, docx, csv, xls, xlsx, txt
Audio: mp3, mp4, aac, wav, au
Video: wmv, avi, mpg, mpeg
Compressed files: zip, gz, rar, z, tgz, tar, sitx
These types help ensure broad compatibility for common upload scenarios while keeping submissions secure.
Note: You can remove file types from the list if you need more control over what users can upload.
Feature Considerations
Users can only collect 1 file per form at this time
Compliance
All files uploaded to the file upload field are ran through a virus scan
Tips for Using File Upload Fields
- Use clear titles and helper text so respondents know exactly what to upload.
- Set a realistic maximum file size based on the type of content you expect. For example, videos and images often require higher limits.
- Remind users about acceptable formats if your process requires specific file types.
