Date fields are used to collect date information from respondents in a clear and structured format. Date fields are ideal for collecting information such as birthdates, appointment dates, deadlines, renewal dates, and scheduling details. This field is ideal for dates that don’t have to be associated with a time.
Adding a Date Field
- In the form editor, click Add Field.
- Under the Advanced category, select Date.
- The field will appear on your form, ready for configuration.
Customizing Field Properties
Once added, you can customize how the Date field appears directly within the form builder.
You can:
- Change the field title to fit your form’s purpose (for example, “Date of Birth,” “Appointment Date,” or “Submission Deadline”).
- Add helper text to give respondents additional guidance (for example, “Select the date of your visit”).
- Add placeholder text if you are using the dropdown view to suggest the expected format.
To the right of the field title, quick-access icons let you adjust visibility and behavior:
- Toggle Required on or off
- Click the eye icon to hide or show the field
- Click the lock icon to make the field read-only
- Click the duplicate icon to copy the field
- Click the trash can to delete it
Field Settings
In the field settings panel on the top right, you’ll find options that control behavior and formatting for the Date field:
- Data Mapping Label - Add an internal label used for data mapping or CSS targeting. This does not appear to respondents.
- Default Value - Select a default date to pre-fill the field. This is useful for internal forms, scheduling workflows, or when most respondents will select the same date.
Set Date Range - Define a minimum and maximum date that respondents are allowed to select. This is helpful for: Ensuring a birthdate is realistic, Preventing past or future dates when not applicable, Restricting selection to a specific scheduling window. This will show up on the live form as a date range with dates outside the range greyed out.
- Date Format - Choose the display format shown to respondents. For example: MM/DD/YY
- Display View - Choose how users interact with the field. Calendar: Respondents select a date from a popup calendar. Dropdown: Allows respondents to choose month, day, and year from dropdown menus.
Feature Considerations
Date, Time and Date/Time fields can only be mapped to date time type fields.
Tips for Using Date Fields
- Use clear and specific field titles to prevent confusion (e.g., “Start Date,” “Event Date”).
- Set date ranges when you need to enforce rules or prevent invalid selections.
- Choose the Calendar view for quick date selection, or Dropdown for accessibility or structured entry.
- Use helper text to clarify expectations, especially for legal or time-sensitive fields.
- Combine Date fields with other related fields—such as Name, Email, or Signature—to create complete scheduling or intake forms.
